The quintessential english village of Great Missenden lies in the heart of the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Surrounded by beech woodlands, rolling hills and full of historic character.
St Andrews Bookshop has been serving in the ministy of Christian literature for over 66 years.
We will be hosting our festival in the Churches within the village. Great Missenden Baptist Church, St Peter and St Paul. More venues within Great Missenden will be announced shortly.
History
In Saxon times, Great Missenden served as a route between the Royal Estates of King Harold in High Wycombe and Queen Elgiva of Chesham. Established in 1133, Missenden Abbey, an Augustinian Monastery, endured until Henry VIII’s dissolution of the monasteries in 1538. The 15th-century George Inn and Court House on High Street were key stops on the route between London and the Midlands. With the village expanding to accommodate more travelers, additional coaching inns emerged, totaling twelve along High Street and Church Street during Victorian times.
