Michele Guinness joins us to explore her book Guinness: The Untold Adventures of an Extraordinary Family and the remarkable story behind one of the world’s most famous names. Written in part in response to the recent Netflix series, the book offers a fuller and more faithful account of the Guinness family than is often told, reaching far beyond brewing and banking.
Married to Peter Guinness, the youngest surviving great-great-grandson of Arthur Guinness, Michele had access to diaries, letters, and research hitherto unknown to the public. She tells the moving and often hair-raising story of the Grattan line of the family, interwoven with the real history of the brewers and bankers. Alongside commercial success, the family also dealt in another kind of spirit, producing explorers, missionaries, clergy, and social entrepreneurs who confronted poverty and injustice, at home and abroad. Woven through these stories of bold action are love and loss, triumph and heartbreak — and this conversation offers the chance to hear these remarkable lives brought vividly to life.
The session will conclude with a live audience Q&A, followed by a book signing.
This session will be held in the main Church building. Bookings are subject to our terms and conditions.
